ABOUT TONY PERKINS

Tony commenced employment in public practice in 1987 after seven years in Newcastle’s steel industry.  He has been providing accounting and taxation advice to his clients for 35 years.  He has worked at local, national and international accounting practices before starting the partnership of PDS-Shaw & Company based in Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in December 2000.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Newcastle and a Master of Financial Planning from Kaplan Professional.  He holds the following designations / memberships:

• Chartered Accountant (CA), Public Practising Certificate with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand

• Fellow – Certified Practising Accountant (FCPA) with CPA Australia

• Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) with The Tax Institute

• Registered Tax Agent

• Registered SMSF Auditor

• Xero Certified Adviser with Xero Australia

He has provided his services to local sporting bodies and state-based charities and is the current Treasurer of Rigpa Australia which is an international Tibetan buddhist teaching and practice organisation.

He embraced the ability to provide accounting and taxation services to provide cloud-based services with the software that he utilises.  The Co-Vid 19 pandemic has allowed accountants to increase working from home and allow a great deal of flexibility to work with clients.  Gone are the days of working in an office from 9 to 5, Monday to Friday.  Tony continues to work two days per week in Manly for client meetings as well as Zoom, Google and Skype appointments.

With the retirement of his long term business partner, Peter Schlag, he has decided to re-brand the practice as a family practice with his wife, Cathy (Office / Administration Manager) and his son Wade (Tax Accountant, who is finalising his accounting degree with the University of South Australia).
